Why Mendocino Renegade?

For Produce Buyers

Organic Certification is an expensive process that involves significant administration and paperwork and can be out of reach for many small local farmers. Complying with CCOF requirements creates an unworkable barrier for many of these small farmers, and without any certification it would be hard for local stores and farmers market consumers to have the confidence that products.

The standards for the Mendocino Renegade label are designed to result in the production of high quality, biologially produced food.

Only farms that use biological practices for their entire farm or operation can be certified. Purchasing from Mendocino Renegade Certrified farms is supporting growers of nutrient dense food whose practices produce the finest quality foods for the health and the environment.

For Farmers

Mendocino Renegade serves as an inexpensive, credible program of labeling local, biologically produced food, feed, and beverages.

If you aren’t currently Organically certified, Mendocino Renegade Certification will broaden your wholesale and marketing ability. The Mendo Lake Food Hub, Ukiah Natural Foods, Mariposa Market, Harvest Market and more, recognize and support the Renegade label.

Cost: It is affordable ($150 for the first year, and $50 to renew). Paperwork is minimal compared to other certifications.

Our certifying committee is a volunteer network that includes local farmers and sustainable food advocates.
